Cornelius Meister - Conductor
Clara-Jumi Kang - Violin

Hisaishi - Encounter for String Orchestra
Sibelius - Violin Concerto
Beethoven - Symphony No.5

The first five bars of Beethoven's iconic Fifth Symphony portend something mysterious and momentous. Filled with turmoil and beauty, this orchestral masterwork will leave you awestruck long after its triumphant finale, performed tonight by our Resident Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The evening opens with a delightful new miniature from Joe Hisaishi (Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro), and Clara-Jumi Kang brings her world-class insight to Sibelius' brooding yet passionate Violin Concerto.

"The brilliant violin soloist Clara-Jumi Kang squeezed every last droplet out of the music... it is no exaggeration to say the entire house was totally captivated and mesmerised by Ms Kang's performance in Jean Sibelius' Violin Concerto." - Daily Echo, January 2024
