Brahms - Symphony No.1

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra returns to Hull City Hall with rising star cellist Zlatomir Fung for an emotionally epic programme of Elgar, Debussy and Brahms.

Brahms' First Symphony begins with the beating of a heart in torment and ends with a hymn of triumph. Debussy's Prélude à I'après-midi d'un faune is very different – as a soft, sultry flute opens the gateway to a dream-world of sensuous sound. Two huge imaginations; two unforgettable musical journeys, brought thrillingly to life by conductor Ariane Matiakh.

Along the way, the multi-award-winning young cello virtuoso Zlatomir Fung joins us for Elgar's autumnal-but-evergreen Cello Concerto. You may already know and love it, but you've never heard it played like this.
