Smetana - Bartered Bride Overture
Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No.2
Dvořák - Symphony No.9

The Czech National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Steven Mercurio present Dvořák, Smetana, and Rachmaninoff at Hull City Hall.

The evening begins and ends with two stirring pieces of quintessentially Czech music, starting with Smetana's exhilarating Overture to his first and most enduring comic opera The Bartered Bride, and ending with Dvořák's seminal work, Symphony No.9, 'From the New World'. Written during a trip to America, it combines Dvořák's signature Czech rhythms with the sounds of American spirituals.

Before that, internationally acclaimed pianist Mark Bebbington joins the orchestra for Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No.2. With glorious melodies and divine harmonies, it's no wonder it's regarded by many as one of the greats.
